De Waal Wines is considered one of the top Pinotage producers in South Africa being only 1 of 6 producers to have received the Top 10 Pinotage award 6 times or more in the 18 years that the competition has been running.
The De Waal Pinotage is a medium bodied wine with flavours of ripe plums and cherries. The palate is rich, with a lingering finish and well integrated tannins.
The De Waal Pinotage is drinking beautifully now but will mature for a further 5 - 8 years from vintage.
The De Waal Pinotage is perfect with Venison dishes.
In The Vineyard
This wine was produced from trellised vineyards situated on warmer north facing slopes. The soil type is Gravel & Loam. The vines are up to 30 years of age.
About The Harvest
These vines produce 9 tons per hectare. The grapes were harvested on the 1st of March 2012.
In The Cellar
The pressing of the grapes and the fermentation period takes 14 days. The wine is then aged in French barrels for 10 months.
